Nigerian government has been urged to increase its funding of Agriculture for the realisation of its diversification policy.
The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, Muhammad Tahir Munguno gave the advice in Abuja while commenting on the 2019 Budget defence being conducted by various committees of the National Assembly.
Mr. Munguno commended government for the constant increase in the budgetary provision for the sector over the years.
10% Annual Budget for Agriculture
He said Moputo Declaration of African countries, including Nigeria, adopted ten percent of annual budget for Agriculture.
“The Maputo Declaration has suggested a 10% Annual Budget for Agriculture as part of measures adopted to increase food security and revenue base for African Countries,” Munguno said.
While decrying the 2018 budget implementation in the sector, Mr. Munguno expressed optimism that with increased budgetary allocations to the sector, the Country’s revenue base will be increased.
